She lived on a farm with her Mom, Dad, and her two brothers. She liked to explore the plants and animals outside. When she went outside she brought jars a notebook and a pencil to make notes about the animals and the plants she saw. When she was 12 she moved to Florida when she moved she had to leave behind her horses. But when she moved to Forida the Gulf of Mexico was right in her backyard!
One of Sylvias major accomplishments is she walked deeper than anyone else had walked in the ocean. She went down 1,250 feet.Sylvia always wanted to see what it would be like to live underwater so she lived underwater for two weeks!
Sylvia spent more than 7,000 hours underwater. One of Sylvias goals were to get as deep as she could possibly go. Sylvia knows 5 gray angelfish that became her friends! She lived underwater for two weeks. Sylvia could of retired but she didn't so she still scuba dives in the waters of the world. She calls the ocean the blue heart of the world. Sylvia pictures whales as ballerinas dancing in the water. When she is in the ocean and hears the songs from the whales she says it is like being in the heart of an orchestra. Sylvia says " every spoonful of water is full of oceans life, and all of the creatures in the ocean sparkle or light up just like fireflies on land ". " When you swim 3,000 feet underwater it is like diving into a galaxy " Sylvia said. Sylvia believes if we don't learn more about the ocean then we will never really care about it or take care of it then we'll never see it's ture beauty.
